How can you teach a ferrett not to scatter their food out of the food dish?
I have 2 ferretts that are not quite a year old. The female has started scattering the food out of the food dish & the male is not getting to each as much. What can I do to teach her not to do that? I have tried squirting her with a water bottle & saying no but it does not work. I had not changed their type of food or done anything different except that we did wire the dish to the cage because they were dumping it out & the food is all wasted. I did try another brand of food to be sure it was not that they did not like it.
Ohh..do I love ferrets. I have one of my own and he is a bundle of Joy. I would suggest either getting two seperate bowls..or see where the ferret is taking to food to and possible consider re-locating the food dish all together. I would try having two food dishes with barely any food in them. Another reason could be that the ferret is looking for fresher food. I’ve noticed with my ferret that if I feed is bowl too full, he wont eat the food if it is a day or so old. He will dig and look for more fresh food. The rule of thumb that I use it only cover the bottom of the dish so that you can no longer see it. Feed them daily little by little. Its worth a try thats forsure!! It might just be a faze..and may grow out of it. Oh and more more thing. I do notice that my ferret sometimes takes his food, when I have him out of his cage, to the carpet and eats it there. Where is you ferrtts bowl. Maybe you need to put a towel or something uner his little feetzies. Well hope I’ve helped!
