I have a question regarding my kitty cat?
Hi everyone, I am a new cat owner. I usally leave the door open during the day -so my kitty can look outside. It is a beautiful day and the birds were chirping loudly. All of the sudden my kitty became very attentive to the birdies and started making a barking sort of sound. It was such an interesting sound. Why does she do this and what is called?

It’s a reflex they have.
Think of a lion who’s spotted it’s next prey. They lie undercover, gauging the movement of their prey. They make a ‘huffing’ sound, but not too loud in case they alert their prey.
Domestic cats do something very similar. They lower themselves to the ground, tense up the muscles in their legs and bodies as if they are powering all their strength and energy into them for the pounce/strike. They also draw their lower jaw down and pull their cheeks back whilst making a deep throated vocal sound that’s repeated.
I’ve no idea what it’s called. Sorry.
